Since pure gold is too soft and unsuitable for jewellery making, it is mixed with proportions of silver and copper. To obtain rose gold, the copper content is increased, while white gold is alloyed from the metals yellow gold, silver, zinc, and palladium.
In Germany, a piece of jewellery must consist of at least 8-karat gold (333 gold) to be considered as gold jewellery. The most common alloys include 375 (9 karat), 585 (14 karat), and 750 (18 karat) gold. Engagement and wedding rings are usually chosen in the alloys of 585 or 750 gold. With the proportion of pure gold, the value and hence the price of the piece of jewellery increase. A 375 gold ring with around 37.5% pure gold content is therefore not as high-quality as a ring made of 585 or 750 gold with around 58.5% and 75% pure gold content, respectively.

The Colour
Diamonds come in different colours, with colourless diamonds being the most coveted. This is because a transparent diamond can optimally reflect the incident light and create the characteristic play of light in the diamond. The colour grades of a diamond range from the D colour grade (River), which is colourless, to a light yellow hue (O – Cape). The most common colour grades for diamonds are F/G (Top Wesselton) to H (Wesselton). Diamonds in intense colours such as yellow, pink, blue, or black are called Fancy Diamonds. The Clarity (Clarity)
The clarity of a diamond is determined by the number of its impurities, known as inclusions. If these inclusions are not visible to an expert at 10 times magnification, it is called a flawless diamond (fl). There are 11 clarity classifications.

Lab-grown Diamonds
Lab-grown diamonds are genuine diamonds that have been created in a laboratory. These diamonds do not differ in their value-determining properties from conventionally mined diamonds. Like natural diamonds, they are composed of carbon and have a hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale. This scale ranges from 1-10 and indicates the hardness of materials, with diamonds considered the hardest substance. The distinctive fire and sparkle of lab-grown diamonds are just as beautiful as naturally occurring diamonds. Their quality is also assessed according to the 4 C's. The only difference between conventionally mined diamonds and lab-grown diamonds is their origin, making lab-grown diamonds particularly attractive. Due to their production method in the laboratory, these diamonds are not only more affordable but also more environmentally friendly as mining is eliminated. Usually, when purchasing a lab-grown diamond, you receive a free authenticity certificate issued by a renowned international gemology laboratory (IGI or GIA).

Determining the Ring Size
Ring sizes can vary by country due to the use of different ring sizing systems. In Germany, the circumference (in mm) of the finger is used to determine the ring size. Other countries may use the inner diameter (in mm) or specific ring sizing systems.
It's important to note that the fingers of the right and left hands can differ, and the sizes of the left and right ring fingers may also vary. Additionally, external factors such as the time of day and temperature can influence the ring size, as fingers are thinner in the morning or in cold weather compared to the evening or in warm temperatures.
Since the correct ring size is crucial for comfort, and we are dealing with measurements in the tenth-of-a-millimeter range, the size should be accurately determined. It's best to measure multiple times a day, ensuring that the fingers are comfortably warm. Also, measure the width at the base of the finger and at the knuckle.
